We awoke to the sound of grunting camels and tourists heading off into the desert ahead of them is 100Km of tracks to the Erg Chaggaga, surely not I thought what a distance by camel, they must swap to 4×4’s two hours later Milly and I have got our shit together and set off to see what the dunes are like and see if many people are there for new year’s eve, after 5 mins drive we come across the tourists we saw leave sheltering from the sun in a wadi, they didn\u2019t get very far, they will never make it for new year partying.<\/p>\n

We stopped at the\u00a0\u00a0 ‘ Sacred water source’ ; a very pretty water hole situated well into the desert<\/p>\n

nearby was a Series 3 that had potential, there was no rot but it had a few bolts missing here and there.<\/p>\n

We headed off piste directly to the dunes for another 20KM, on arrival we thought we had taken a wrong turn onto the M6 of South Morocco. There was so many 4×4 with tourists and camel trains with 5 , 10 even 20 people heading for huts in the desert to celabrate new year<\/p>\n

We picked a spot and set up camp , with a cloudy view of the sky we watched hundreds of people climb every dune on the horizon and 4×4’s wizzing around, a couple of Polaris shot by and all the time Toyotas ferried punters to tents, the music and bongos started after the sun went down, we then spotted the tourists from this morning just arriving to their luxury tents, wow what a day for them , we spoke with a camel herder who had just dropped off 10 Dutch, he said it\u2019s a 3 day excursion !!!\u00a0\u00a0 That\u2019s on not for me I am sure. What we were sure of was a great new years bang..\u00a0 but when 24h00 arrived nothing, no fireworks not even a cheer,what a let down, oh well we finished of the beer sent some text messages and went to bed, the next day was a long sandy drive to Foum Zguid passed the Titanic !!!<\/p>\n

I think you have to lick the toads and smoke the weed to see a ship in this design, but the gimmick was worth a picture , a sunken disaster of a ship on the ancient see bed in the desert.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Now to wait for the Africa race let’s hope that has more pzazz than New Year in the dunes.<\/p>\n

The camel joke…..<\/p>\n

A Foreign legionnaire is posted to a far desert camp way down in southern Sahara, when he arrives he asks the sergeant what they do for female company.<\/p>\n

The sergeant replies\u00a0#<\/p>\n

‘There is no town for 50 miles and that if you feel the urge for a woman then you must wait for the passing camel herd’<\/p>\n

The legionnaire is shocked but goes to his barracks and makes good his bunk, only five minutes had passed and he hears shouting all around the army camp, fearing an attack he runs outside to see all the legionnaires running after\u00a0a herd of passing camels shouting\u00a0 camels\u00a0, camels…<\/p>\n

he manages to catch the sergeant has he is running past and asks why is every one running.<\/p>\n

‘you don’t want to get and ugly one do you?’<\/p>\n
