Cafes with a view.
The two pictures are cafes with a lot more in common than may at first be apparent, both provide service to the customers that pass by, they also serve beverages and food and they both have fantastic views one is of the Lancashire hills, the other views of the edge of the Sahara both views splendid in their own special way, a not so obvious similarity is that both are hidden from passing customers, one by an amazing 300 mile track through the southern Morrocan mountains and the other through its baffling position around the rear of the arena tucked in a dark alleyway and while one trades on its remoteness as a feature the other fails to trade at all, now my the idea of a burger bar is that it is either in a spot that is very obvious or has a good view of the activity, in the case of Jimmy’s Farm food that would be feeding the mums and dads at the show jumping, tucking it around the back without view of either the warm up area or the jumping arena appears a little confusing. While Northcote stud has the feel of an extremely well thought out layout the owners appear to be losing the plot when it comes to layout so when the blonde and I spotted people with hot cups of coffee we set out to find the source, one small sign down an alley by an office pointed us to the nice looking burger van. Usually such endeavours result in a situation that any level of service would be a joy, however the food and beverages on offer where as lost as the location of the stall, luckily the sarcasm from the owner was fully loaded and after a short and quick interaction we understood another reason for the lack of customers.
To sum up, a baffling location,the food selection and quality ….. none and none, that’s right nothing to eat except a bar of dairy milk , luke warm brews in naff polystyrene cups and sarcastic service.
The Saharan café on the other hand had a very warm welcome with ice cold drinks and lamb kebabs just great for the next 300km to the next oasis.
