Discovery 2 Snorkel
Bored over xmas, I decided the winter car should get a snorkel so I can abuse it in deep water 🙂
I used Oval Stainless steel exhaust tube leftover from another job and 3D printed some adapters in Carbon/PetG and the top is in Nylon PA6,
it’s all sealed up and is tucked in tight, and I didn’t even have to take the wing off to fit it.
It’s not exactly what I wanted but will do the job ,need to improve the A-pillar mounts a little

Hi Beady
I was looking for a long time to track down something like a Mantec-style snorkel for my D2. Your project looks awesome, and with your 3D print design, simple enough to DIY for any LR enthusiast. Just a simple question, why did you choose the oval 304 SS over the round one? You did use the silicon tubing to connect the printed part with the SS tube, so no oval shape continuity was required. Is there that much of a space limitation behind the wing? I will try to source a 3-inch ABS tube and form it with a heat gun, but it’s not fully successful, and the PVC or PVC-U is a bit too brittle in my opinion. Also, would you mind posting the SLT file of the top part?
Regards Seb
Hi Seb,
I never like to follow the crowd, it is a brain issue I am sure . The Oval pipe looks great and I had some over from doing the exhausts on the Morgan CX-T project.
but also it does fit well with the A pillar, using SS means it takes damage well in extreme off roading, I am always the first one trying to get past the tree leaning into the track.
If I got another D2 ( which I love ) I would do some mods to it, I didn’t get the angle right at the top but its not a big issue.
I will post up the STL files
I’m making some cool bits for the rear windows, hopefully done for later this year, initially D1 for my Daughter overlander but intend to make them for her friends D2 as well ,
have fun

the top will also work with Discovery 1
do you happen to have any measurements of the pipe? Like lengths, diameter, degree angle, etc? this is really cool I’ve been considering taking a crack at it myself because I’ve been search high and low for a mantec with no luck
Hi
The oval pipe comes from exhaustparts UK Oval exhausts they do 45 or 90 deg bends and 1 metre lengths , I think I got away with one 45 and 1 metre of the 2.5″

Wondering if you still have the 3D print file for the adapter segment to connect to round hose. Looking to install Southdown D1 snorkel on 2003 D2.
Hi Chad,
I pressume you ,mean the interface between the airbox and the snorkel pipe.

This is an STL and a STP file.
you can use a piece of silicon hose to go between the oval and the round pipe.
it bolts through the inner wing ,use some gasket sealer to seal both sides.
have fun
