Heading west from Etosha

we couldnt stay in the national park it was just so busy with white Toyotas with roof tents stuck on top,, hundred of them I, am not kidding.

we stopped just after the park on a game hunting farm and left early the next day for some off roading down the Hoanib trail .

bit toight madame, range rover slips though narrow gap in the dry river bed 4x4 track desert
yellow grass for thousands of acres and just a range rover stood in it
amazing fields of wild grass
no roads here doesnt bother the range rover overland camper
some parts were a challenge , with deep sand and very rough tracks
careful with the fires in the riverbed

we stopped the night at the side of the riverbed, the wood was everywhere but was tinder dry and burnt like crazy, but at least it kept the wild animals away. in the sand, we could spot Desert Elephant, lion, and cheetah footprints, when the fire dies down, you have to be inside or prepare to get eaten. this is not a normal UK campsite problem.

we had been warned about desert elephants they are very aggressive luckily and are not used to humans , they will attack, especially the bull elephants.we saw about ten in the day time dotted down the river bed and drove past without issue.

bit dusty on these tracks, range rover covered in fine dust after big off road 4x4 trip
the fesh fesh was bad.

at the end of the rived bed we headed south into the Palmwag Rhino reserve, this has a fee of 15£ and we can stay overnight, they have designated camping areas, which have zero facilities but help contain any human interaction with the wild, and they are well marked and in epic locations.

remoe camping with rhinos and dingos
tiny painted rock beside the road denotes official camping area in the Palmwag reserve
wild camping in namibia
wierd tree in namibian desert
this is a tree stunted by the weather conditions down to 30cm tall, it was very strong but surprisingly for this desert had no thorns.

after the Palmwag ( no bloody rhinos) reserve we headed for the rock carvings at Twyfontein
