White night of the desert.

Sat by the fire having a beer, dreaming about nuts and bolts and computer code I hear a truck approach. Right next to my camp it gets stuck in the soft sand, the driver tells all the occupants to disembark, I watch as 20 young French & Italian ladies enjoying a gap year from university climb off the truck to survey the damage. Is obvious to them they are not getting to their tents to enjoy wine and frolic with wild abandon any time soon. One spots the old wise man sitting by his off road motorhome quietly enjoying the stars. They gather courage and approach, in a combined french/Italian chorus they softly ask ‘please dear sir may you assist us with your equipment and years of experience, so we may enjoy a night of merriment.
I look up and sigh, gather my old bones together and in minutes I have them on their hands and knees, pushing, shoving, out of breath, sweating, laughing, and enjoying every minute, again I say push it in hard, they must be between the curves and the soft parts or you will not get the full effect. After four big pushes they sigh a contented relief and cheer, they thank me for the experience and just like that Milly looms out from doing the dishes to shout, ‘what are the f£#@ are you doing”
I retire back to my chair and again ponder ‘ is ok to use a 15mm spanner on prop nuts when you know you have a 9/16 somewhere in the toolbox?’

yes the sky was that colour.
